The program is available to families nationwide whose simcha was cancelled due to lockdown regulations and travel restrictions and best of all the program is designed so that your teen need NOT learn a new Torah portion different from the one they originally prepared.
Families can choose a Bar/Bat Mitzvah date – March 15 – April 15, 2021 – and the ceremony can be held any day of the week.
The venue is the Holiday Inn, Lido Beach, in beautiful Sarasota, located on Florida’s enchanting west coast. The hotel offers an air conditioned meeting room where Rabbi Barbara will add Jewish ritual items and configure the room to create sacred space.
And again, your teen need not learn another set of Torah verses.
Thanks to the special Sephardic study blessing that will be offered in the service, your child will proceed with the verses already prepared. The Torah scroll will be set for the portion the student is ready to read and the atmosphere will be joyful, relaxing, friendly and inclusive.
Following the ceremony family and friends will join Rabbi Barbara on the beach (directly across from the hotel) where they will enjoy a light Kiddush. Your simcha ends with a moving family mikveh blessing in the warm and calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico!
NOTE: We welcome children with special needs. Rabbi Barbara Aiello is a former special educator with years of experience adapting the Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation and ceremony to children with learning differences, including ADHD, Down syndrome, physical disabilities and children whose learning needs fall on the autism spectrum.
In fact when one teen whose learning needs fall on the autism spectrum, concluded his reading of the transliterated Torah verse, he raised his arms in victory and shouted, to the claps and cheers of the congregation, “I’m a Bar Mitzvah!”
